A combination of ending one business (our magazine), using up much of our time to raise our two young daughters instead of the more-than full time self-employed work schedule that we’re more used to, plus a move to a new city has meant that for the past few years we’ve been super broke. This means that even before I start I’ve got a list a long as my arm of things that I’ll be looking out for to buy on safari. These include;
 Some new (to me) specs. I love my specs, but I’m bored with them. So I’ll donate them to somebody else as soon as I find my dream pair.
 A fridge/freezer. The freezer part of our fridge freezer has died so we’re currently using the whole thing as a big fridge. I wonder if I might get to own that Smeg fridge I’ve always wanted, or something else equally stylish. Just because it’s a useful object shouldn’t mean that design doesn’t count. It does.
 Many new clothes. For the first time in my entire adult life I’m on a diet. I probably should have been on a diet for a decade or so, but there’s so much absolute nonsense written and talked about weight loss that I’ve realised retrospectively that I’ve been on a decade-long rebellion. However, I’m uncomfortable and I want to lose some weight. It won’t change my life, get me a better job, solve all my problems or anything else, but I might just lose a few pounds. The good news from the point of view of the safari is that as the pounds effortlessly roll away (cough) I’ll need some new togs.
 A car. I don’t yet drive as having lived in London for most of my adult life I didn’t need to. I need to now so I’m saving up for driving lessons. Then I’ll be looking for a car. What do you think of this one?
