A week in to Secondhand Safari, and there’s already a problem. So far it’s all still feeling like fun, and a good challenge to solve. Whether that will continue we’ll have to see…
Basically, last year I bought a really nice pair or maroony/burgundy shops from a backstreet charity shop in Southport. Southport’s all very new to me – having lived in London for 13 years before moving up here I’d always thought that Southport was somewhere in the, erm, South. Think I was getting confused with Southend. ANYWAY, I like these shoes lots but having worn them several times now I’ve realised that the previous owner had performed a little magic with some shoe polish and that in fact the shoes aren’t in anything like as good condition as they seem to be. The polish has now officially worn away, and I need some more. But how on earth am I going to obtain a tin of maroon/burgundy shoe polish secondhand?
Red felt tip pen- sure you must already have some of these– and it worked on the worn ribbing of our red 1930s sofa- with occassional top ups. I mostly live as frugally/greenly as possible too, and it’s easy but sometimes challenging- always a solution
Good luck Suzi!

Is it within the challenge to take them to a cobbler to get polished up?
